The Flyers are a mess, but this prop bet makes total sense

The Philadelphia Flyers are a bit of a mess. The 2022-23 NHL season is on the horizon and it’s hard to really find any real reason to be optimistic about this team other than the head coach having a reputation for turning water into wine. If you’re looking to bet on the Flyers this season, it probably seems like a waste of money. But just because the team will probably suck, it doesn’t mean you can’t make money.

The Flyers ended last season with 58 points. Since then, they’ve preached ’rebuild’ and opted to pay Rasmus Ristolainen and Tony DeAngelo a ton of money. They’ve lost Sean Couturier to a significant injury and will be hoping that guys like Kevin Hayes and Carter Hart can rebound from injury-plagued campaigns a year ago. If 58 points is the grading point, then 73 points feels massively out of reach.

Speaking of Carter Hart, he’s cooperating fully in an investigation into the acts of the 2018 Canadian World Juniors team. Allegations of sexual assault loom large over the team and Hart hasn’t flat-out denied anything. While he may have been told to simply keep quiet and comply with the investigation, even if he is innocent, it’s a dark cloud to hover over the head of a goaltender who took a clear step back last year.

There are only 5 teams that have a lower points total projection than the Flyers. The Philadelphia offense lacks any kind of star power and will struggle to keep up in a ton of games this season, barring a miracle.

For context, the Bruins made the playoffs with 73 points last year. The Flyers are absolutely nowhere near that level. The roster has been gutted over the past few years with little intent to grow the next generation of players. This season could be an excruciating one, but betting on the under here might make it just a tad more tolerable.
