One person was arrested and a handful of others were cited, authorities said, in connection with protests surrounding the presidential debate held Tuesday night at the National Constitution Center.
A Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson said the arrestee was apprehended for allegedly failing to disperse, reckless endangerment and risking catastrophe. Six received citations for failure to disperse, according to police.
Video posted by Unicorn Riot, a left-wing media outlet that frequently covers protest activity, shows officers pushing back and shouting at a crowd demonstrating against the United States’ continued support for Israel.
The large Pro-Palestine march began at City Hall, reaching the debate’s security perimeter at about 8 p.m. Other groups that had gathered at Independence Mall were dwarfed by the protesters, who were encouraging the public to reject the two major party candidates.
Chants included “It is right to rebel, Israel go to hell” and “Biden, Harris, Trump and Bibi, none are welcome in our city.”
The marchers were accompanied by throngs of officers, and there was a significant police presence throughout Old City and Market East.
