1 killed, 8 injured in shootings

A man was killed and eight other people were wounded in shootings late Sunday night and early Monday in Philadelphia.

Just before midnight Sunday, officers responded to the 2600 block of S. 78th Street in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia, where they found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30 a.m. Monday, according to authorities. He has not been publicly identified.

Two people, including a 15-year-old boy, were injured when shots rang out at around 3:15 p.m. Monday on the 6300 block of Montour Street in the Lawncrest section of Northeast Philadelphia, investigators said.

The teenager was shot once in his left leg, and a 20-year-old man was hit in his right leg, authorities said. Both were taken tin Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

At around the same time, on the 3900 block of Brown Street in Mantua, a 46-year-old man was shot in his arm and leg, according to police. He was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

In Germantown, someone shot a 53-year-old man once in his arm inside an apartment on the 4600 block of Wayne Avenue, police said. He is expected to physically recover..

A 30-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot at around 1:30 p.m. Monday on the 4900 block of Boudinot Street in Feltonville, authorities said.

Three people were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the 2900 block of Frankford Avenue in Kensington, investigators said.

Police said a 27-year-old woman was shot in her hand and wrist, and a 23-year-old woman was struck in her knee. The third victim, a 39-year-old man, was grazed in his chest, according to authorities. All three were listed in stable condition.

Investigators did not report any arrests in the immediate aftermath of any of the shootings.

Through Sunday, 187 people have been killed in Philadelphia this year, a decrease of 17% compared to this point in 2022, according to police department data. The number of shooting victims has dropped 21%.
