1 killed, 7 injured in shootings

Eight people were shot Monday and early Tuesday in Philadelphia, and several others were injured in stabbings, according to authorities.

Police said a 20-year-old man was found at around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday with a gunshot wound to his chest inside the basement of a house on the 5500 block of Belmar Street in Kingsessing. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

About five minutes later, in a separate incident, officers picked up a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the right foot near the corner of Chew Avenue and Church Lane in East Germantown and took him to Einstein Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

In Kensington, a 22-year-old man was sitting inside a car at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 3300 block of Braddock Street when a bullet struck him in the left calf, authorities said.

He is being treated at Jefferson Frankford Hospital and is expected to physically recover.

On Monday, just before 10:45 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in both legs at the corner of Allegheny and Germantown avenues in North Philadelphia, police said. He was driven to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.

A little earlier, just after 10 p.m., officers were called to the 1800 block of E. Hunting Park Avenue in Juniata, where they found a 48-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his stomach and right arm.

He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.

Two men were hospitalized after shots rang out at around 9 p.m. Monday on the 400 block of N. 50th Street in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia.

Police said a 34-year-old was shot in the right shoulder and leg, and a 25-year-old man was hit in the right leg. Both victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian and are expected to survive.

Earlier in the day, also in West Philadelphia, a 23-year-old man was shot while driving his car at around 2:30 p.m. on the 5500 block of Master Street, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder and drove himself to Mercy Hospital.

There were no arrests in connection with any of the shootings, police said.

Medics took a 25-year-old man to the hospital after he was stabbed in the forehead just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 3900 block of Conshohocken Avenue in West Philadelphia. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Authorities said officers arrested a suspect at the scene.

Earlier, at around 10 a.m., a 29-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen inside an apartment on the 4600 block of Penn Street in Frankford, according to police. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, and there were no arrests.

A woman was arrested following a stabbing at around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 2800 block of Ridge Avenue in North Philadelphia, authorities said. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was stabbed twice in the back and is expected to survive.

Police did not release further information on the suspect.

A 34-year-old man was in critical condition at Temple University Hospital after being stabbed in the chest at around 7:15 p.m. Monday near the corner of Jasper Street and Allegheny Avenue in Kensington, authorities said. No one has been apprehended.
