Police have arrested a suspect in a Germantown shootout that killed a man who was accidentally driving by while his 3-year-old daughter was in the backseat.

Jameil Byrd, of Wissahickon Avenue, was charged with murder and related offenses in the July shooting, police said Friday. Authorities are still looking for a second suspect in connection to the shooting,19-year-old Saykou Monte from the unit block of E. Collum Street. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Alsharay Ford, 25, was killed at about 6 p.m. on July 28 while several men were shooting at each other across the 5100 block of Germantown Avenue, according to police. Ford was driving down that same stretch of road when the men were firing at each other and got caught in the crossfire. He continued to drive his car for two blocks after he was shot, but eventually crashed his vehicle. His 3-year-old daughter was sitting in the backseat, but was unharmed.

Ford, however, was hit in the temple and right shoulder, and was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Anyone with information on Monte’s whereabouts, should contact the Homicide Fugitive Squad at 215-686-3068 or the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 / 3335.
