Brittany Howard is at the helm of this Alabama-based rock band responsible for bringing you the Grammy-nominated song “Hold On.” Howard’s voice is raw and soulful, backed by electric guitar-based rock and blues. The band released their sophomore album, “Sound and Color,” in April. Drive-By Truckers’ new album, “It’s Great to Be Alive,” which was recorded live at the Fillmore in San Francisco, is out Oct. 30.

Known for co-fronting the indie band The Unicorns, this Canadian musician, composer and producer has been very prolific over the course of his career, collaborating with Mister Heavenly, Human Highway and Reefer. According to Pitchfork, his latest album, “City of Quartz,” is the closest his work post-Unicorns has come to re-creating the band’s style.
