11 shot over weekend in Philadelphia

At least three people were killed and eight others were injured by gunfire Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.

Just after 4 p.m. Sunday, a 42-year-old man was shot twice in the chest on the 5200 block of Sydenham Street in Logan, authorities said. He died of his injuries a short time later.

Police said a 24-year-old man died at Einstein Medical Center after being shot 16 times at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of E. Chelten Avenue in East Germantown.

A gun was recovered from the victim, but no one was apprehended in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators said.

Earlier in the day, at around 11:30 a.m., officers found a woman dead of three gunshot wounds in the basement of a house on the 2000 block of Napfle Avenue in the Rhawnhurst section of Northeast Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Police identified the victim Sunday as 25-year-old Deja Monae Lewis, who lived on the block. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and no arrests have been made in the case.

On Sunday, someone shot a 29-year-old man several times just before 12:45 p.m. inside a store on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington, investigators said. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Another 29-year-old man was also in critical condition after he was shot multiple times at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of E. Courtland Street in the Feltonville neighborhood, authorities said.

At around 2 a.m. Sunday, a 37-year-old woman was shot in her abdomen and lower back on the 400 block of E. Allegheny Avenue in Kensington, according to police. She was later listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

Two young women were struck after more than 20 bullets were reportedly fired just before 5:15 p.m. Saturday on the 1600 block of S. Taney Street in South Philadelphia.

Police said an 18-year-old was struck twice in the ankle and a 21-year-old was hit in the right thigh. Both women were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

About 15 minutes earlier, in North Philadelphia, someone shot a 24-year-old man in the back and shoulder near the corner of Philip and Westmoreland streets, authorities said. He is expected to survive.

In Holmesburg, a 21-year-old man was shot in the left knee and right thigh at around 4 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Sheffield Avenue and Jackson Street, police said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Earlier Saturday, at around 1 a.m., a 41-year-old man was shot once in his abdomen on the 100 block of Hansberry Street in Germantown, investigators said. He was being treated at Temple University Hospital for serious injuries.
