The National Police Defense Foundation is offering a $10,000 Safe Cop reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing a Philadelphia police officer in 1970.

The shooting death of Officer Frederick Cione on Jan. 30, 1970, is the only unsolved homicide of a city police officer.

Cione was shot on the 1700 block of West Oxford Street in what was then the 23rd district. He was 25 years old.

The Safe Cop Program reward will be announced during a press conference to be held Thursday afternoon at police headquarters. Cione’s brother and nephews will be joined by Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Homicide Unit Capt. James Clark and National Police Defense Foundation Executive Director Joseph Occhipinti.
