10th annual PAWS Mutt Strut is taking over the Navy Yard this weekend

The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) hopes to make Philadelphia a no-kill city—but until that day PAWS continues to raise funds and awareness for homeless animals here in Philadelphia. The 10th annual PAWS Mutt Strut will take place on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Navy Yard.

The Mutt Strut is held each year as a way to support all the lifesaving efforts provided by PAWS and as a fun event for all the PAWS supporters said Melissa Levy, executive director of PAWS.

Upon arriving attendees can enjoy food from participating food trucks like Schmear It, Mucho Bueno, Pbon’s Fresh Phoods, Tot Cart, and Jerry’s Kitchen.

The Master of Ceremonies WMMR DJ Steve Morrison will be greeting people as they arrive and making important announcements at the stage. Three Chord Money will also be playing live music at the stage.

The Mutt Strut will have doggy-centered activities like a costume contest, a talent contest, a dog agility course, and much more. Levy said activities like the costume and talent contest were added over the years in response to attendees either dressing their dogs up for Halloween or showing off their dog’s tricks.

The 1.5 mile walk throughout the Navy Yard will begin at 11 a.m. The walk, which begins at the stage, will be kicked off by the Mummers. However, attendees without a dog will be able to rent an adoptable PAWS dog at the adoption tent for the walk. If interested in adopting a dog it is encouraged to apply ahead of time. Furthermore, when Mutt Strut attendees register online they can start raising money before the event.

“You get your own personal fundraising page and with a unique link you can send that link to all your friends, your social circles, your colleagues etc.,” Levy said.

The fundraising goal this year is $125,000, which isn’t far off from the $120,000 raised last year at the ninth annual PAWS Mutt Strut.
