12-year-old boy killed in West Philadelphia shooting, brother arrested

A 12-year-old boy was killed after suffering a gunshot wound to the head Wednesday evening in Belmont, according to authorities.

Police responded to the 800 block of Brooklyn Street to a call of a person shot just before 9:20 p.m., where they found the boy, identified as Nashon Thomas.

Thomas was transported by paramedics to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he succumbed to his injury just after 9:40 p.m., police said.

The area was secured by authorities. Police recovered a weapon, and an arrest has been made.

According to police, the offender is a 14-year-old boy, the victim’s brother.
