A total of 15 people were shot over the weekend in Philadelphia, including a man who was killed in East Mount Airy.
Then, on Monday, just after 3 a.m., a man was shot once in the chest near 31st and York streets in Strawberry Mansion, authorities said. The 31-year-old victim was listed in stable condition at the hospital.
Police said the weekend’s gun violence began just after midnight Saturday, when a 19-year-old man was shot in the abdomen on the 1400 block of N. Corlies Street in Brewerytown. Medics rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
Several hours later, just after 4 a.m., officers responded to a property on the 2700 block of Hicks Street in North Philadelphia, where a man had been shot twice in the leg. Police said the victim is in stable condition.
On Saturday afternoon, a 28-year-old man was injured after being shot in the left thigh in the parking lot of a Motel 6 at 11580 Roosevelt Boulevard in Somerton, according to authorities.
Police were called at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to the 6200 block of Limekiln Pike in East Germantown and found a 31-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen and left buttocks. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Two hours later, a 31-year-old man was gunned down on the 6700 block of Chew Avenue in East Mount Airy, becoming the city’s 243rd homicide victim of the year.
He died at the scene. Detectives recovered a gun, but no arrests have been made.
Philadelphia’s homicide rate continues to rise. It’s now up 31 percent compared to the same time last year, the highest it’s been at this point in July in at least 13 years, which is as far back as the police department’s online data tracks.
In West Philadelphia, a man was shot once in the upper part of his back at around 10 p.m. Saturday on the 500 block of N. Creighton Street in the Mill Creek section, police said.
The 31-year-old victim was later listed in stable condition.
A 27-year-old man was also shot once in the left leg Saturday night, just after 11 p.m., on the 3100 block of Tasker Street in South Philadelphia, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
On Sunday, a 28-year-old man showed up to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center just before 1 a.m. after being shot twice in the right leg on the 5900 block of Sansom Street in West Philadelphia, according to police. He was listed in stable condition.
About 15 minutes later, officers found a 35-year-old man who had been shot once in the chest on the 1500 block of Mohican Street in West Oak Lane. They rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.
Two people were hospitalized after shots rang out at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 6500 block of Essington Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.
A 48-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and dropped off at the hospital, where he was in critical condition. The other victim, a 31-year-old woman, was in stable condition after being hit in the right thigh, investigators said.
Later in the day, just before 10 p.m., a 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with a knee wound after a shooting on the 400 block of S. 52nd Street in West Philadelphia. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Minutes later, a 33-year-old man arrived at Jefferson Frankford Hospital after being shot once in the left foot on the 5200 block of Hawthorne Street in Frankford, authorities said.
Investigators are still looking to locate the scene of a shooting that sent a 21-year-old man to the hospital Sunday night.
The victim showed up to Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia at 10:45 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his right thigh and told officers he didn’t know where it happened, police said.
Meanwhile, at around the same time in Kensington, a 31-year-old man was shot multiple times as he was leaving his house on the 2800 block of Jasper Street, authorities said. Officers took him to Temple Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
No arrests were reported in connection with any of the shootings.
