2 dead, 10 wounded in weekend violence across Philadelphia

Violence across Philadelphia left two people dead and 10 others injured Saturday and early Sunday. 

Police said a 46-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest at around 9 p.m. Saturday outside on the 4600 block of Whitaker Avenue in Feltonville. 

An 82-year-old man was also injured during the incident, authorities said. He was later listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital with a stab wound to his back, according to the PPD.

Officers arrested a suspect and recovered a weapon at the scene, police said. There was no word on a possible motive.

Earlier, at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, someone stabbed a 20-year-old man twice in his abdomen on the 400 block of N. Wanamaker Street in West Philadelphia, investigators said.

Authorities said he was taken in a private vehicle to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died at around 12:40 a.m. Sunday. No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of the killing.

Police did not publicly identify either homicide victim. Since the start of the year, 165 people have been murdered in Philadelphia, down 35% compared to the same date in 2023, according to PPD data.

Three men were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at around 2 a.m. Sunday on the 4200 block of Germantown Avenue in Nicetown, authorities said.

Officers responding to a call found a 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to Temple University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Investigators said two other men – ages 19 and 30 – had been shot and showed up to the same hospital a short time later. Both victims were listed in stable condition, according to police. The PPD did not report any arrests.

Someone shot a 16-year-old boy in his back at around 8 p.m. Saturday on the 1700 block of S. 19th Street in Point Breeze, according to authorities. Officers took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and he is expected to survive.

No one was apprehended in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

In Tacony, a 24-year-old man was stabbed in his hand and cheek at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday on the 6500 block of Torresdale Avenue, police said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, and no arrests have been made.

A man was arrested following a double stabbing that occurred at around 12:15 p.m. Saturday behind a building on the 600 block of Edison Avenue in Somerton, the PPD said.

Investigators said a 47-year-old woman was stabbed in her stomach, and a 20-year-old man suffered wounds to his chest and right arm. Both were transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and are being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police did not provide further information about the suspect.

Just after 7 a.m. Saturday, a 44-year-old man was stabbed in his hand on the 3600 block of Chestnut Street in University City, authorities said. He is expected to physically recover, and no one was immediately taken into custody.

Earlier Saturday, at around 12:45 a.m., someone stabbed a 47-year-old man in his forearm on the 1200 block of Vine Street in Center City, police said. He was hospitalized in stable condition. Investigators said the victim knew his attacker, though no arrests have been reported.
