Two men were hospitalized Tuesday night after nearly three dozen shots were fired in Fairhill, police said.

Investigators believe the incident is likely tied to a nearby double shooting that happened early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called at around 10:45 p.m. to the 100 block of W. Huntingdon Street, where they found a 54-year-old man who had been shot multiple times, authorities said. A 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg was taken from the scene to Temple University Hospital in a private vehicle, according to the PPD.

Both victims were later listed in stable condition, police said. Authorities said the younger man was detained and is expected to face charges.

Crime scene investigators found 34 spent 9mm shell casings and recovered multiple weapons, the PPD added. Detectives believe an argument of some kind sparked the violence.

Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told TV crews that the vehicle used to take the 34-year-old man to the hospital and the address of one of the victims helped authorities make a connection to the earlier shooting.

In that incident, a 37-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were struck by gunfire just before 1:45 a.m. Tuesday on the 2500 block of N. Palethorp Street, which is around the corner from the scene of the Huntingdon Street shooting.

Both victims were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said, and no arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of the violence.

A police department spokesperson said Wednesday that they could not confirm whether the two shootings are related, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call or text the PPD’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through March 4, 149 people had been shot this year in Philadelphia, down about 15% from the same date in 2024, police data shows.
