2 killed, 11 wounded in weekend shootings

Two men were killed and at least 11 other people were wounded in separate shootings over the weekend in Philadelphia.

Police said a man, described as being in his mid-20s, was fatally shot at around 3:45 a.m. Sunday on the 1000 block of Cherry Street in Chinatown.

Officers who responded to the shooting recovered a gun and arrested a suspect, though authorities did not release further information Sunday.

On Saturday, at 12:30 p.m., someone shot a 54-year-old man three times as he was standing in the front entrance of a house on the 7300 block of Sanderling Place in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia, police said.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Investigators recovered a gun from the victim and reported no arrests.

Authorities said a 15-year-old boy walked into Temple University Hospital at 1 p.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to his left knee. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers were not immediately able to locate the scene of the shooting.

In Kensington, a 44-year-old man was stabbed in the hip multiple times at around 9 a.m. Sunday on the 2700 block of Emerald Street. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

A 37-year-old woman was in critical condition after she was stabbed in the abdomen at 6:30 a.m. Sunday on the 5800 block of Baynton Street in East Germantown, police said.

Earlier, at around 3:30 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the groin during a carjacking on the 1500 block of Van Kirk Street in Oxford Circle, investigators said. He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition.

Two teenagers were wounded when gunfire erupted just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 800 block of W. Huntingdon Street in North Philadelphia.

An 18-year-old woman was hit in the right knee, and a 19-year-old man was struck twice in the shoulder, according to police. Both are expected to physically recover.

Thirty minutes earlier, in West Philadelphia, someone shot a 45-year-old man five times on the 1400 block of N. 53rd Street in the Carroll Park neighborhood, authorities said. He was later listed in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian.

On Saturday, just before 10:45 p.m., a 15-year-old girl was shot once in the right foot on the 3900 block of L Street in Juniata, investigators said. She was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in stable condition.

In Southwest Philadelphia, a 19-year-old man was hit in the buttocks after shots were fired at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday on the 2400 block of S. 63rd Street, according to authorities. He is expected to physically recover.

Earlier, at 2:30 p.m., two men were injured in a shooting on the 5900 block of Locust Street in West Philadelphia.

Police said a 31-year-old man was shot in the right elbow, and a 42-year-old man was struck in the left hand. Both were hospitalized in stable condition.

A 29-year-old man was hospitalized with two gunshot wounds to his hip after being shot at 4:30 a.m. Saturday on the 100 block of E. Allegheny Avenue in Kensington, authorities said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Investigators said a 44-year-old man showed up to Einstein Medical Center in Logan with a gunshot wound to his right thigh at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Police did not know where the shooting occurred.
