3 killed, 5 injured in shootings across Philadelphia

Three people were killed and five others were wounded in separate shootings Monday evening and early Tuesday in Philadelphia, authorities said.

A 23-year-old man was shot several times throughout his body at around 2:15 p.m. Monday on the 800 block of S. 58th Street in West Philadelphia, investigators said. Officers took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Also in West Philadelphia, a 19-year-old man died after he was shot multiple times in the head at around 8 p.m. Monday on the 5500 block of Sansom Street, police said. Officers recovered a gun at the scene, according to investigators.

Authorities have not publicly identified either victim, and no one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of the killings.

Three people were struck when gunfire erupted at around 5:15 p.m. Monday on the 6200 block of Glenmore Avenue in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia, investigators said.

Police said a 37-year-old woman with two gunshot wounds to her head was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. She succumbed to her injuries just after 6:15 p.m., authorities said. Her name has not been released.

A 15-year-old boy was shot in his right shoulder, and a 27-year-old woman was hit in her right leg, according to investigators. Both were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Authorities said a suspect was apprehended in connection with the shooting.

On Tuesday, at around 6:15 a.m., someone shot a 24-year-old man while he was driving on the 700 block of S. 42nd Street, near St. Joseph’s University City Campus, in West Philadelphia, authorities said.

The victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian with gunshot wounds to his chest, back and torso, according to police. He is expected to survive, investigators said.

A 24-year-old man was being treated for serious injuries after he was shot once in his stomach at around 9:15 p.m. Monday on the 4900 block of Pennway Street in the lower Northeast, authorities said.

Earlier, just before 8:45 p.m. Monday, shots were fired on the 1700 block of W. Juniata Street in Nicetown, leaving a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his hip, police said. He was later listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.
