Gunfire left two men dead and at least five other people injured Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.
At around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, two men kicked in the front door of a house on the 1800 block of Diamond Street in North Philadelphia and unloaded, wounding three people, including a 15-year-old girl, police said.
The teenager was struck in the leg and taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in stable condition, authorities said.
A man in his early 20s who was shot twice in the back of the head died a short time later at Temple University Hospital, and another victim, also a man in his early 20s, was hospitalized in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his chest, shoulder and leg, according to police.
Investigators said the gunmen fled the scene in a white Chevrolet.
In Frankford, a fatal shooting occurred just before 4:45 a.m. Sunday on the 4700 block of Oxford Avenue, near SEPTA’s Arrott Transportation Center.
Transit officers rushed a 32-year-old man to Temple University Hospital after he was shot once in the chest, police said. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators said a person of interest was apprehended and a gun was recovered at the scene.
Through Saturday, 482 people had been killed in the city this year, down 9% compared to the same date in 2021, when Philadelphia experienced a record number of homicides.
Earlier Sunday, at around 3 a.m., someone shot a 21-year-old man in the face on the 1100 block of S. 54th Street in Kingsessing, authorities said. He is expected to survive.
In Hunting Park, a 35-year-old man was shot once in the shoulder at around 8:45 a.m. Saturday on the 4200 block of N. Franklin Street, according to police. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
A 33-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot twice in the hip at 12:45 a.m. Saturday on the 5500 block of W. Thompson Street in the Carroll Park section of West Philadelphia, authorities said.
