2 killed, 5 wounded in weekend shootings

Gunfire left two men dead and at least five other people injured Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia.

At around 12:45 p.m. Sunday, two men kicked in the front door of a house on the 1800 block of Diamond Street in North Philadelphia and unloaded, wounding three people, including a 15-year-old girl, police said.

The teenager was struck in the leg and taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in stable condition, authorities said.

A man in his early 20s who was shot twice in the back of the head died a short time later at Temple University Hospital, and another victim, also a man in his early 20s, was hospitalized in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his chest, shoulder and leg, according to police.

Investigators said the gunmen fled the scene in a white Chevrolet.

Transit officers rushed a 32-year-old man to Temple University Hospital after he was shot once in the chest, police said. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators said a person of interest was apprehended and a gun was recovered at the scene.

Through Saturday, 482 people had been killed in the city this year, down 9% compared to the same date in 2021, when Philadelphia experienced a record number of homicides.
