A man was killed and a woman was severely injured in separate crashes over the weekend in Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Police said a man was found unresponsive at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, his body laying on the roadway on the 3900 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, near Tacony Creek Park. He appeared to have been struck by a vehicle that fled the area, investigators said.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, and no arrests have been made.

On Saturday, just after 11 p.m., a woman was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition after being hit while walking at Broad and Lombard streets in Center City, police said.

The driver and a passenger in his car said the driver attempted to stop, but the vehicle’s brakes were not working, according to investigators. Police said the driver was able to stop the vehicle a short distance away and remained at the scene.

Authorities said the victim suffered head trauma as a result of the crash.
