The Eagles have a few holes to fill this offseason and the NFL Draft provides a perfect avenue to fill at least one of them.
A 9-7 season didn’t instill much confidence in the long-term success of the organization, but it was good enough to take a weak NFC East division.
While a quick trip to the playoffs provided a small consolation prize — although it included a disappointing showing in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks — the Eagles are stuck picking in the second half of the first round.
Luckily for them, one of their most pressing needs is a position that is not commonplace in the first round.
In the last decade, only 34 wide receivers were selected in the first round, which leaves the Eagles with a pretty good opportunity to get the help they so desperately need on the outside.
Injuries ransacked Carson Wentz’s wide-receiving corps., most notably DeSean Jackson, who was limited to just three games in 2019.
Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor also missed considerable time, leaving the Eagles with a hodgepodge of reserve and practice-squad receivers — most notably rookie JJ Arcega-Whiteside, who the Eagles selected last year ahead of the likes of DK Metcalf and Darius Slayton.
Legitimate depth at wide receiver would help develop the Eagles’ offense immensely and provide that much more support for Wentz, who will continue to stay under the microscope until he gets the Eagles back to Super Bowl contention.
