$20K reward for bank robber, other criminals wearing ‘Muslim garb’

Councilman Curtis Jones Jr., District Attorney Seth Williams and the
Muslim leadership of the Delaware Valley, represented by
the Majlis Ash Shura, will tomorrow announce a $20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of anyone
who commits a violent crime while disguised in Muslim women’s clothing.

They cited recent incidents in which criminals have used the traditional dress to disguise their identity, such as last week’s slaying of an Upper Darby barber and a spree of bank robberies beginning in January whose perpetrator
dresses in what police call full “Muslim garb,” including a black face veil.

“I stand with the leaders of the Majlish Ash
Shura in condemning such gutless actions by these individuals. These
actions are in direct opposition to the Islamic way of life and I hope
these criminals are brought to justice as soon as possible,” Jones said in a release.

The suspect in the Upper Darby shooting was arrested last Thursday, but the bank robber – who last struck April 4 at a Wells Fargo bank on the 700 block of Adams Avenue – is still at large.

That man is described as a 6-foot-one black male, aged 25 to 30, with a lean build, dark complexion and short hair. In one incident on March 20, he brought along a similarly-clad accomplice and the two looted a Sovereign Bank at 8310
Stenton Avenue.

The suspect is also wanted for the robberies of 3rd Federal Bank at 6633 Roosevelt Boulevard on Jan. 6 and More Bank at 470 W. Cheltenham Avenue on Dec. 23 and March 14.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police Department or the FBI at 215-418-4000.
