3 names Eagles should pursue to replace Brian Johnson as QB coach

The Philadelphia Eagles have a new offensive coordinator and it is the coach that everyone was clamoring for. Brian Johnson has been promoted from the QB coach to offensive coordinator/play-caller and will have an even more direct hand at getting the most out of franchise quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

As great as a move like this is, the Eagles now have to find someone to replace Brian Johnson as quarterback coach. Luckily for them, there are plenty of excellent candidates.

Here are three names to keep an eye on.

Alex Tanney

Tanney is the obvious and simple choice for the Eagles to replace Johnson. As assistant quarterback coach, Tanney has been a big reason for Hurts’ development and is an obvious successor for Johnson. Tanney is a former quarterback and has gotten rave reviews from the Eagles staff. This one would be the most logical choice with Hurts’ having a career year last year.

Pep Hamilton

A Pep Hamilton/Brian Johnson quarterback room might be the best assistant staff on offense the Eagles have had in quite some time. Hamilton has gotten rave reviews from every team he has been a part of and has gotten the most out of mediocre quarterbacks. Imagine what he can do with a top player like Jalen Hurts. Hamilton was fired as Houston’s offensive coordinator, but could very well be looking to get into coaching as soon as possible. It would also be an incredible move for Hurts’ development.

Marcus Brady

Marcus Brady came over from Indy after Frank Reich was fired halfway through the year. During that time, Brady helped the Eagles’ offense gameplan and continue to be one of the best overall groups in the entire NFL. While Kevin Patullo could very well be seen as the senior offensive assistant along with Brian Johnson, Brady could very easily slip into the quarterback coach role as a former one, and provide the necessary experience for Hurts and the offensive staff.
