4 new restaurants to try in Philly this spring

After what seems like the longest winter ever, spring is finally in bloom at these new Philadelphia restaurants. From Peruvian fare and pizzerias in Center City to BBQ and fried chicken in South Philly, you could spend a good portion of your free time exploring places you’ve never tried before. Here are four new restaurants you should try in Philly this spring.

For the fried chicken fan

This East Passyunk Avenue fried chicken spot only seats eight at the moment, but as the weather gets warmer, outdoor seating will become available. The menu by chef Adam Volk features buttermilk fried chicken meals, sandwiches, sides and of course, biscuits.

For the pizza pundit

With locations in Asbury Park and Jersey City, Porta has finally brought its pizza and Italian fare to Philly. They currently have lunch, brunch and dinner menus, so you have ample time throughout the day to grab a bite. Try their seasonal spring betty pizza ($17), which includes goat cheese, house-made mozzarella, asparagus, garlic, watercress pesto and thyme.

For the BBQ buff

Enjoy smoked oak-wood brisket, spare ribs and pulled pork at Mikes BBQ in South Philly. The newest venture from Taproom on 19th owner, Mike Strauss, smokin’ hot menu items include a brisket cheesesteak, collard greens and gouda mac ‘n’ cheese.

For a taste of South America

You don’t need to hop on a plane just yet to experience el sabor of Peruvian cuisine — you can simply go to Old City. From the owners of El Balconcito and El Balconcito II in Northeast Philadelphia (Peruvian/Portuguese fusion restaurants), Vista Peru focuses on strictly Peruvian  seafood fare. There’s also a pisco bar.
