4 wounded in overnight shootings across Philadelphia

Gunfire left four people injured in shootings Saturday night and early Sunday across Philadelphia.

Just after 1 p.m. Sunday, someone shot a 31-year-old man in his shin on the 4100 block of Reese Street in the Hunting Park neighborhood, authorities said. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition, according to police.

The PPD said no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and there were no details about a possible motive.

A 31-year-old man was in critical condition after he was shot in his lower abdomen and thigh at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the 2800 block of N. 2nd Street in Fairhill, authorities said. Police reported no arrests.

Shots were exchanged just before 9:15 p.m. Saturday when two teenagers allegedly attempted to rob a 26-year-old man on the 1200 block of N. 41st Street in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia, investigators said.

The man, who police said had a license to carry, fired at the teens, striking a 16-year-old boy multiple times, according to authorities. The PPD said the boy was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the other robbery suspect, also a 16-year-old boy, accompanied the teen to the medical center and was arrested. Both are expected to face charges, and officers recovered two guns.

The man was shot in his chest and hospitalized in critical condition, according to investigators.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents is asked to contact the PPD’s Shooting Investigation Group at 215-686-8270 or call or text 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through July 21, 601 people had been shot in Philadelphia this year, a 41% decrease compared to the same date in 2020, according to police data.
