49ers vs Eagles preview:

The Philadelphia Eagles have the chance to win their second NFC Championship in five seasons. Standing in their way is the vaunted San Francisco 49ers defense, coordinated by an old friend in DeMeco Ryans, and an offense, led by a rookie quarterback and filled with stars.

49ers vs Eagles Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles come into this game following a 38-7 demolition job of the New York Giants in the Divisional Round. Many were concerned that Daniel Jones would give the Eagles some trouble, but those worries were soon put to rest. The Birds ran all over the G-Men, showing that while they have plenty of receiving threats, their bread and butter is still very much the damage they can do on the ground.

As for the 49ers, they overcame the Cowboys in a low-scoring Divisional Round matchup, extending Brock Purdy’s win streak to 7 games. The rookie quarterback has been nothing short of excellent so far, but he’ll now have to prove he’s up to the test against a defense that compiled a franchise record 70 sacks this season, leading the NFL.

Purdy will have his work cut out for him, and the Eagles absolutely have an advantage at QB with Jalen Hurts at the helm. The MVP candidate has accounted for over 4,000 yards of total offense this season and 36 total touchdowns. As amazing as Hurts and his group of playmakers have been, this game will likely be won and lost in the trenches.

While Nick Bosa is an absolute game-wrecker, the Niners will likely be missing Charles Omenihu, who was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of domestic violence. The 25-year-old has played 53% of the snaps on the right side of the line and was second on the team in sacks. If he doesn’t travel with the team, this will give the Eagles a real advantage when scheming runs away from the clutches of Nick Bosa.

On the other side of things, Brock Purdy is not the dual-threat monster that Jalen Hurts is. When facing pressure against the Cowboys this past weekend, he completed only 3 of 11 passes for a total of 24 yards, taking 2 sacks in the process. If there is ever a weekend to dial up some blitzes and let guys like Haason Reddick eat, this is the one.

Sure, the Eagles have to be wary of players like Christian McCaffrey and a variety of versatile weapons who can be plugged in anywhere on offense. But this team has stepped up to the mark time and time again, and with such a dominant defensive line, it’s hard to see Brock Purdy being able to maximize those talents in what will undoubtedly be a hostile environment.

49ers vs Eagles betting pick

The Eagles have all the talent in the world to cover by more than a touchdown. I don’t think anyone expected them to blow out the Giants the way they did, and the Niners will be a much tougher opponent. With that said, this is Philly’s game to lose, and I think they win it comfortably.
