5 fun things to do in Philly this week

Looking for fun things to do in and around the city this week? Metro has you covered.

Tacolab Dinner

Two cuisines blend together for a delicious collaboration dinner. The culinary teams behind Mike’s BBQ and Mission Taqueria team up for another installment in the long-running dinner series hosted in the Taqueria’s vibrant space. The special dinner combines elements from both American and Mexican barbecue in addition to other classics. Choose from dishes like the Puffy Tacos with smoked chicken, huevos rancheros and classic BBQ sides. The chefs brought in a different special guest for dessert. 1-900-ICE-CREAM will serve a plantain pudding just for the occasion. Limited seatings will take place between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Feb. 24, 5:30 p.m., Mission Taqueria, 1516 Sansom St., $45, missiontaqueria.com

Bloomin’ Make + Take

Spring always arrives a little early in Philly thanks to the Philadelphia Flower Show, opening this weekend at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, but get a sneak peek of the show at Comcast. The Concourse at the Comcast Center hosts an evening dedicated to beautiful blooms. Make your own flower crowns with 7textures and join a DIY succulent planting workshop hosted by Society Blooms. The evening wouldn’t be complete without mingling and snacks that fit the theme. Try floral-inspired wines from Chaddsford Winery and small bites from Concourse restaurants Greens & Grains, Di Bruno Bros. and Top Chef Quickfire.

Feb. 25, 5 -7 p.m., The Concourse at Comcast Center, 1701 John F. Kennedy Blvd., $5, concoursecomcast.com

Mardi Gras with The Wild Bohemians and West Philadelphia Orchestra

Celebrate Mardi Gras in Philly with music that would make New Orleans proud. The Wild Bohemians and West Philadelphia Orchestra join forces to throw the brassiest and brightest Mardi Gras party at Franky Bradley’s that’s all about the music. The Wild Bohemians, a traditional second line marching band, open the show before the West Philadelphia Orchestra takes over. The Balkan brass band is known for bringing the party at events throughout the year and Mardi Gras is the time for both these bands to really shine.

Feb. 25, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., Franky Bradley’s, 1320 Chancellor St., $15, frankybradleys.com

Dance Up Close with Megan Mazarick and Marion Ramirez

See two choreographers and performers in their element during this rare opportunity to experience dance performance in an intimate venue. The dance festival continues with performers Megan Mazarick and Marion Ramirez. Mazarick will present her “Boundaries and Other Works,” a series of dance sketches with a strong political message as she explores separate-ness and national identity. Ramirez, a Puero Rican dance artist, will perform alongside Cuba percussionist Juan “Cuco” Castellanos.

R. Eric Thomas at the Free Library

Known for his column “Eric Reads the News” in Elle magazine, journalist and author R. Eric Thomas comes to the Free Library as part of his book tour for his new collection of essays “Here for It.” Lin Manuel Miranda calls the book “Sedaris-level laugh-out-loud funny” as Thomas explores what it means to be an “other” and how to tell your own story.
