Five people were wounded in a pair of shootings Monday night in North Philadelphia, on the heels of a violent Independence Day weekend.
Teens shot in Strawberry Mansion
Officers responded just before 11:45 p.m. to the corner of Ridge and Susquehanna avenues in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, where they found an adult man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
The victim was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, officials said. The PPD has not provided his age.
On the other side of the Schuylkill River, police found two teenage gunshot victims inside a car on the 700 block of N. 40th Street in Mantua, authorities said. Investigators added that they were in the Strawberry Mansion area at the time of the shooting.
A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized with wounds to his shoulder, and an 18-year-old man had been shot three times, according to the PPD. They were both listed in stable condition.
Officers recovered a gun and found three spent shell casings from two different weapons at the scene. No arrests have been reported.
Double shooting hours earlier
About two hours earlier, at around 9:30 p.m. Monday, two men were struck when shots were fired on the 2900 block of N. 12th Street, police said.
Authorities said a 19-year-old man was shot in his chest and wrist, while a 55-year-old man was hit in his left arm. Both were taken to Temple University Hospital and are expected to survive, according to the PPD.
Investigators found a gun and documented 19 spent 9mm shell casings in the area. No suspect was been apprehended in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Gun violence surge over holiday weekend
Six people were killed and 40 others were injured in 19 separate instances of gun violence over the Fourth of July weekend, including a shooting early Monday in Grays Ferry that left three people dead and nine injured.
Despite the holiday surge in violence, homicides are down 9% and the number of people shot has dropped 3.5% compared to the same date last year, according to PPD data.
