If you want to add a gothic twist to your Valentine’s, try this talk. It’ll be filled with tales of romance (and romantic scandal) from the supposedly prudish Victorian era. There’s even, we’re told, a sexting scandal of sorts. The storytelling takes places before a fire promised to be roaring, with a dessert and cocktail reception afterwards.

Philadelphia Film Society screens this creepy 2008 Swedish horror-romance, whose weird yet potent mix of young love and murder speaks to the confusion of adolescence, when you’re caught between a vanishing childhood and an adulthood that’s not quite arrived yet. It would be a curse indeed to be stuck forever as a 13 year old, as the vampire heroine Eli is — so awkward!

But sound isn’t the only sense to be serenaded, so there’s also a chocolate tasting from Teuscher chocolates, and for the eyes, there’s the venue itself, a glorious late 19th century Romanesque revival church.

Black Grace is a dance ensemble from New Zealand that brings together the diverse indigenous traditions of the South Pacific and mixes it with hip-hop, modern dance to create an deeply physical, narrative dance experience, informed in part by some of the members’ former lives as athletes.
