6 killed, 2 injured in weekend shootings

Six people were killed and two others were wounded in separate shootings over the weekend across the city.

On Sunday, at around 2:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2800 block of N. Bonsall Street in North Philadelphia, where they found a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds to his head, neck and back, police said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

A man in his 20s died after he was shot in his chest, abdomen and buttocks at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1400 block of W. Chew Avenue in the Ogontz neighborhood, according to authorities.

At around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, someone fatally shot a 26-year-old man on the 7300 block of N. 19th Street in West Oak Lane, investigators said.

Police responded at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to a house on the 100 block of E. Pastorius Street in East Germantown, where they found a 45-year-old woman who had been shot in her chest on the living room floor, authorities said. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Earlier that day, just before 7 a.m., a 54-year-old man was killed in a shooting that occurred around the corner, on the 100 block of Herman Street, investigators said. A police spokesperson said the homicides are being investigated as separate incidents.

In North Philadelphia, a 33-year-old man was shot in his neck at around 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Cleveland and Cumberland streets, according to police. He later died at Temple University Hospital.

Authorities have not publicly identified any of the victims, and no arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of any of the killings.

Through Saturday, 305 people had been murdered this year in Philadelphia, a 21% drop compared to the same date in 2021, according to police data.

A 14-year-old boy was struck when shots were fired at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the 100 block of W. Logan Street in Germantown, investigators said. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

Early Saturday morning, at around 1 a.m., a 37-year-old man showed up to Einstein Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right hand, authorities said. Police said they do not know where the shooting occurred.
