A broad daylight shooting near the busy corner of Broad Street and Olney Avenue left seven people wounded, authorities said.
Limited information was available at the time Metro went to print, but police said a suspect was apprehended and two guns were recovered at the scene. The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Among the victims were a 22-year-old man, 21-year-old man, 53-year-old man, 36-year-old woman , a 70-year-old man and a 71-year-old man.
The 71-year-old man was shot once in the stomach and several times in both legs, and he was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. Police said the other victims suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 29-year-old man was shot once in the right leg just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday inside a property on the 6000 block of N. 21st Street in East Germantown, police said.
He was in stable condition at Einstein, and authorities said he is expected to face charges, though they did not detail the alleged offenses.
Three people were shot in the span of about 15 minutes Tuesday night in North Philadelphia.
At around 8:30 p.m., a 43-year-old man was fatally shot in the torso on the 1500 block of N. 18th Street, police said.
Authorities said a 17-year-old boy was shot three times — in the chest, torso and arm — at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 2100 block of N. 4th Street. Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
At about the same time, in a separate shooting, a 23-year-old man was struck in the left thigh on the 1600 block of W. Susquehanna Avenue. Police said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Through Tuesday, 71 people had been killed in Philadelphia since the start of 2021, up from 48 at this time last year, an increase of nearly 50%.
Detectives are investigating a pair of suspicious deaths Wednesday morning in North Philadelphia and Kensington.
Officers were called at around 6 a.m. to the 2300 block of Strawberry Mansion Drive in Fairmount Park, where they found a naked woman who was on fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and no further information was released Wednesday.
In a separate incident earlier, just after 12:45 a.m., police and fire crews responded to a vehicle that was engulfed in flames near the corner of Frankford Avenue and Bellmore Street in Kensington.
The burnt remains of a man were found inside the car, which did not appear to have been involved in a crash, according to multiple media reports.
No arrests have been made in connection with either death.
Firefighters also battled an early morning blaze Wednesday at a home on the 4800 block of N. Hutchinson Street in Logan.
After the fire was put out, an unresponsive man was found inside, and he died just before 5 a.m. at Einstein Medical Center, according to authorities.
Gunman sought in Feltonville homicide
Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a gunman who killed a man inside a Feltonville home last month.
The suspect was caught on surveillance camera entering a house on the 4900 block of Rorer Street just before 3 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, investigators said. Inside, he allegedly shot 20-year-old Lucas A. Booker, who lived at the property, once in the head.
Police described the suspect as a tall slim man with facial hair who is possibly Hispanic.
