9 injured in weekend violence

At least nine people were wounded in shootings and stabbings Saturday and Sunday across Philadelphia.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man was stabbed once in the right side of his head on the football field at Smith Playground, near 24th and Wolf streets in South Philadelphia, authorities said.

Medics took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, according to investigators. Police did not release any additional details.

Two men were struck when gunfire erupted just before 7 a.m. Sunday inside an unlicensed club on the 2000 block of Plum Street in Frankford, police said.

Two men, ages 25 and 32, were shot in their right legs and taken in a private vehicle to Nazareth Hospital, according to authorities. Both are expected to survive.

A 38-year-old man was hospitalized after he was stabbed in his abdomen at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the 600 block of E. Clementine Street in Kensington, investigators said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

In Hunting Park, someone stabbed a man in his neck at around 12:05 a.m. Sunday on the 3900 block of N. 9th Street, according to police. The victim, described by authorities as 40 to 50 years old, was later listed in stable condition.

On Saturday, at around 9:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy arrived at Episcopal Hospital after he was shot once in his thigh on the 4600 block of C Street in Feltonville, investigators said. He is expected to physically recover.

Officers were called just before 2 a.m. Saturday to the 5900 block of N. 5th Street in Olney, according to authorities.

Police said a 25-year-old man was shot in his thigh, and the other victim, also a 25-year-old man, was hit in his right foot. Both were in stable condition following the shooting.

A 19-year-old man showed up to Einstein Medical Center just after 1 a.m. Saturday with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound to his left thigh, investigators said. Police said the location of the gunfire was unknown, and a PPD spokesperson did not provide an update Sunday.

No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of any of the incidents.
