Weekend shootings in Philadelphia left at least one man dead and eight people wounded, and several others were hospitalized following stabbings.
Police said a 31-year-old man died shortly after being shot in the head at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday on the 7400 block of Fayette Street in the East Mount Airy neighborhood. There have been no arrests.
Early Sunday morning, at around 1 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg on the 300 block of E. Tioga Street in Kensington. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.
Not far away, on the 400 block of E. Allegheny Avenue, also in Kensington, a 51-year-old man was stabbed several times in the back, left arm and right arm inside a sports bar just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. No one has been apprehended.
Authorities said a 21-year-old man was shot in the chest at around 9:15 p.m. Saturday on the 7100 block of Dicks Avenue in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia. He is expected to survive.
In South Philadelphia, a man was stabbed on the street just before 7:45 p.m. Saturday on the 700 block of Snyder Avenue, police said.
He was transported to Jefferson University Hospital with wounds to his left arm and ribs. His injuries are not life-threatening, according to authorities.
A 21-year-old woman was stabbed at around 6:15 p.m. Saturday on the 6000 block of Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia, investigators said. Officers took her to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was in stable condition.
Detectives are investigating what police have dubbed a “suspicious death” Saturday in the Fairhill neighborhood.
Authorities said a woman found her 30-year-old son unresponsive in the kitchen of his house on the 2600 block of N. Orianna Street. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead at 5 p.m.
A police spokesperson did not provide an update on the situation when contacted Sunday.
Just after 5 p.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old woman was shot in the leg inside a house on the 7300 block of Malvern Avenue in Overbrook. Authorities said she was taken to Lankenau Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Two people were hospitalized after shots rang out Saturday afternoon in North Philadelphia.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the hip and buttocks and a 25-year-old man was hit in the leg at around 2:15 p.m. Saturday on the 600 block of W. Diamond Street, police said. Both are expected to survive.
In Holmesburg, a 33-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being shot twice in the buttocks at around 8:45 a.m. Saturday on the 8600 block of Gillespie Street, authorities said.
There was no word on her condition. A gun was recovered at the scene, but there were no arrests, according to police.
A shooting inside a West Philadelphia bar early Saturday morning left a man fighting for his life, investigators said.
The victim, described as 40 to 50 years old, was shot once in the neck at around 1:45 a.m. inside the establishment on the 1300 block of N. 50th Street in the Parkside neighborhood. No one was apprehended at the scene.
Earlier, just after 1:15 a.m., a 32-year-old man was stabbed in the chest on the 1200 block of N. 55th Street, also in West Philadelphia. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian in critical condition.
Officers arrested a suspect, but police have not released additional information.
In North Philadelphia, a 67-year-old man was found outside on the 500 block of W. Erie Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday with stab wounds to his chest, shoulder and abdomen and cuts to his head. Police transported him to Temple University Hospital, where he is expected to recover.
Just after midnight Saturday, a 57-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the hip inside a property on the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue in North Philadelphia. No arrests have been made.
