9-year-old girl killed in shooting

A 9-year-old girl died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head Wednesday morning inside a North Philadelphia home.

Medics rushed her to Temple University Hospital at around 11 a.m., and she died about three hours later, authorities said.

The girl was inside a house on the 2300 block of N. Bouvier Street at the time of the shooting with one or two other children and no adults. Two guns were found inside the home, police said.

Detectives continue to investigate the shooting, which is believed to be accidental.

City Council President Darrell Clarke, who represents North Philadelphia, took to social media, urging gun owners to obtain a gun lock or safe to store their firearm.

“It’s the law and it could prevent another senseless tragedy,” Clarke tweeted.

Elsewhere in Philadelphia, two people were killed and six others were wounded by gunfire Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

A man shot his wife multiple times throughout her body inside a house in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia, investigators said.

The 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday inside the rear bedroom of the home, on the 2000 block of Carver Street. The husband fled the scene and is still on the run, police said.

Officers rushed a man to the hospital after he was shot once in the chest at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1700 block of N. Newkirk Street in Brewerytown. The victim, whose age was not released, died a short time later.

A suspect was apprehended and police recovered a gun, but authorities did not release further information.

In West Philadelphia, a 32-year-old man was shot three times — in the upper torso, left leg and right leg — near the corner of 41st and Aspen streets just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said. He was listed in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Three people were hospitalized after shots rang out at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 3700 block of Wallace Street in the Mantua neighborhood.

A woman, described as approximately 30 years old, was shot multiple times in the stomach and left hand, and a 33-year-old woman was hit several times in the abdomen, police said. The other victim, a 31-year-old man, was shot four times, including twice in the chest.

All three were transported to Penn Presbyterian in critical condition, according to authorities.

Police said a 25-year-old man was taken to Temple University Hospital Tuesday night after being shot in the right hip, groin and lower back on the 2000 block of E. Atlantic Avenue in Kensington. He was in critical condition.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 44-year-old man was shot in the chest and in both shoulders at the corner of 24th and Cambria streets in North Philadelphia, authorities said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

In Port Richmond, a 64-year-old man was hospitalized after being stabbed six times at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 3200 block of Richmond Street, according to police. There was no word on his condition.

Officers took a suspect into custody.
