As the new school year approaches, members of the West Philly nonprofit ACHIEVEability are calling on community members to help support the city’s students in need.
Now through Friday, Aug. 8, folks in and around the city can participate in ACHIEVEability’s annual Back-to-School drive. To help provide ample opportunity for local students to continue learning and growing, ACHIEVEability is collecting donated supplies to help ensure 1,250 children return to school fully stocked with all the supplies they’ll need for the upcoming year.

From brand new backpacks to pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons, calculators, and more must-haves, now is your chance to make a difference in a young student’s life. Those interested in donating items can sign up via ACHIEVAbility’s 2025 provided signup sheet and purchase items off the direct shopping list or Amazon wish list linked within.
Donations can either be shipped to or dropped off at ACHIEVEability’s physical office (5901 Market Street, Suite #410) with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Aug. 8. On Aug. 13, the donated supplies will be given out to students during ACHIEVEability’s Backpack Drive.
Since 1981, ACHIEVEability has worked diligently to provide relief for low-income, single-parent and homeless families throughout Philadelphia. Their mission is to permanently break the generational cycle of poverty affecting these families through higher education, affordable housing, supportive services, community and economic development and accountability.
