As you may have noticed, it doesn’t take a stunning amount of talent — or even a reliable pulse — to be on TV these days. But it does require an audition of some sort if your last name isn’t Kardashian.
This Saturday, Actorfest makes its first stop in Philly, offering workshops, networking opportunities and casting calls for aspiring actors, seasoned pros and reality show hopefuls.
“I think it’s an event that people in Philadelphia want,” says event coordinator Josh Shames of the annual convention, which also makes stops in New York, L.A., Detroit, Las Vegas and Chicago. “There’s a wonderful film commission in Philadelphia, and a wonderful community of people in the performing arts.”
Networks in attendance Saturday include MTV — currently casting for the reality series “Made” — and NBC. “These networks, movies and studios are all looking for different talents,” says Shames. “We make sure that people are not only walking away with a better understanding of the industry, but also have the opportunity to walk away with a job.”
