Adelphia Restaurant & Events to host free mass wedding on Valentine’s Day
Three years ago, business partners Bill and Evelyn Balis also helped launch love in the air when they gave away a wedding to a deserving couple (after thousands of couples applied) and 150 of their closest friends and family members, and after the success of that love story, the duo wanted to elevate their martial bliss offerings even more.
“It’s the most romantic holiday of the year, it falls on a weekend, and it’s the anniversary of the last time we did this, so it made perfect sense to do this,” said Evelyn Balis in a release. “Weddings are one of the biggest things we’re known for at Adelphia, and we wanted to get really creative and figure out a way to include as many people as possible this time around. We hope to see dozens of happy couples tie the knot with us this year, and we’re even welcoming any couples who would like to renew their vows. It was such a hit last time and it even made national news, so we really hope anyone looking to get married hears about this and gets the opportunity to get married without breaking the bank.”
The release states that it turns out that getting married in NJ is a smart bet, as the state boasts the lowest divorce rate in the country, according to the 2011 Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. New Jersey ranks last among the states in the percentage of residents 18 and older who are divorced, with just 9 percent of New Jersey adults divorced, compared with approximately 52 percent of whom are now married.
The ceremony will have an Elvis impersonator who will serve as a non-denomination minister, then after his marrying duties are done, he will also serenade the brides, grooms and their friends and families. The service itself, cocktails and hors d’ouvres are free for the brides and grooms. Anyone who wants to attend can do so by buying a ticket for $50, and can also enjoy a cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres. Music and flowers will also be provided by Adelphia, and all proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.
