AI study names Philadelphia Eagles fans the angriest in the NFL

According to a study from Sportsbook Review, the Philadelphia Eagles fanbase is the angriest in the NFL.

When the AI boom began and ChatGPT started dominating headlines, I thought we’d be entering a stunning new era of tech. Instead, we have TikTok covers of Peter Griffin and SpongeBob singing ‘Careless Whisper’ and studies of selfies taken by NFL fans.

Sportsbook Review used AI to analyze 20,000 selfies from NFL fans taken at every stadium to try and work out whose fanbase is the happiest, saddest, fearful, and other emotions most Football fanatics feel on a weekly basis. Surprisingly, the Eagles were named as the NFL’s angriest fanbase in the study.

Angriest fanbases: Philadelphia Eagles rank 1st in the NFL

  1. Philadelphia Eagles4.2%
  2. Las Vegas Raiders – 4.0%
  3. Kansas City Chiefs – 3.6%
  4. Pittsburgh Steelers – 3.4%
  5. Chicago Bears – 3.3%

There’s a lot to dissect here. I think context matters. How old were the selfies? If they were all taken during the 2023 season then I think this assessment is fair. In fact, I’d love to see a diary of selfies from Lincoln Financial Field as the closing weeks of the 2023 regular season passed by, watching emotions turn from joy, to pure frustration. But in reality, Eagles fans shouldn’t really have that much to be angry about.

The team did make the playoffs last year as it has in each of the last 3 seasons, going as far as a Super Bowl berth in 2022-23. They have a franchise quarterback, a star-studded offense, and some big-name players on the other side of the ball. It’s probably the best team on paper the Birds have had for over a decade.

But, then again, Eagles fans are the most passionate fanbase in the NFL, and we don’t need an AI study to tell you that. Maybe the anger was misplaced as pure passion? Who’s to say.

It is ironic how the Chiefs are also the 3rd angriest fanbase in the NFL. Ah yes, nothing frustrates me more than supporting a dynasty that can’t stop winning Super Bowls!

While the study shouldn’t be taken all too seriously, it is amusing to see that Dallas Cowboys fans were named as ‘the most scared’ fans in the NFL. Every cloud…
