Authorities are investigating a car fire at the Bensalem Police Department on Byberry Road.
A police cruiser went up in flames in the station’s parking lot shortly after 9 p.m. last night in what authorities are now calling a “suspicious” fire. Both the police car and an employee vehicle parked next to it were completely destroyed, authorities said. A third car belonging to a staffer was badly damaged.
Police said the incident was complicated when, due to the intense heat and flames, several rounds of ammunition inside the cop car exploded, barring responding officers and firefighters from extinguishing the blaze or moving nearby vehicles until the area was deemed safe.
A full investigation is underway.
