An interesting night awaits as NBA draft approaches for the Sixers

This could be the most intriguing draft in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

There doesn’t appear to be a franchise-changing player such as Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan or LeBron James, but there is definitely a plethora of talent.

And the Sixers sure need talent. Loads of talent.

On Thursday night, the Sixers hold seven picks — Nos. 3, 10, 32, 39, 47, 52 and 54.

As the draft begins and continues through the night, it’s possible those picks could change. Trades can be made and general manager Sam Hinkie has already shown he’s willing to deal anyone.

Last year on draft night, Hinkie shipped All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel. This summer, Noel is expected to make his long-awaited debut for the Sixers after recovering from a torn ACL.

With the Sixers currently holding the No. 3 pick, and contemplating moving either up or down on the draft board, nobody in the prospect pool appears to be unattainable. Here is one last look at the top names who could wind up playing in the Wells Fargo Center this fall.

Andrew Wiggins

The 6-foot-8 forward from Kansas would be a perfect fit with the Sixers. Even though Wiggins played just one season with the Jayhawks, he proved his mettle in many ways. Wiggins has much to learn, but he could turn into a franchise player.

Joel Embiid

He had a back injury at Kansas. Now, it’s a foot injury which will likely sideline him for four-to-six months. This is a major risk. Embiid could wind up being an All-Star center for years to come. Or he could be the next Sam Bowie. Such a tough call.

Jabari Parker

The former one-year wunderkind from Duke looks to be the most polished player. He can score. He can get to the basket. He can rebound. Parker does a lot of things well. But he doesn’t seem to do anything at an elite level just yet. With his work ethic, that could change. Parker should put up numbers right away, but projecting down the line is tricky.

Dante Exum

The 6-foot-6 guard from Australia is the wild card here for the Sixers. Can he co-exist with Michael Carter-Williams in the backcourt? It would be fascinating to watch. Exum is young and ultra-talented who could grow with MCW. Why not?
