On Saturday night, officers of the Pennsylvania Society for the Protection of Animals said they raided a Southwest Philly home where an animal hoarder had 18 cats.

William Miller, 50, of 7404 Elmwood Ave., has been charged with 15 counts of animal cruelty.

Miller reportedly had confined 15 cats and 3 newborn kittens in unsanitary conditions.

PSPCA officers entering the home found it to be”covered in 4-5 inches of feces all around,” said GeorgeBengal, Director of Humane Law Enforcement, in a statement announcing the raid.

The conditions were discovered by Philadelphia police officers investigating a separate matter involving Miller.

Police alerted the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia about the number of animals and widespread feces in the home; they then contacted the PSPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement team.

PSPCA officers obtained a search warrant before entering the home, and rescuing the 18 cats, who are currently being evaluated at the PSPCA’s facilities.
