Two Aria Health at Torresdale employees were fired amid accusations they sold prescription drugs out of the Northeast Philadelphia campus, according to multiple media reports.
6ABC reported that the hospital was tipped off about the drug trade and opened an investigation upon learning of the trade. Hospital officials told the news outlet that the drugs were not taken from the hospital supply, but that information has not yet been confirmed.
Officials have not yet explained how the drug ring operated, but said the hospital is cooperating with the investigation, according to the news outlet.
Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Christine O’Brien said that she has not heard of either the police department or the District Attorney’s office opening its own investigation as of Sunday afternoon, but more information would be available Monday.
