The 2013 USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) is coming to PPL Park in Chester on June 1 and June 2. The tournament is the Big Dance of rugby, with a heavy dose of local flavor.
Six schools with Philadelphia ties – Penn, Temple, Delaware, Penn State, Saint Joseph’s, Kutztown – are in the field. In a press release for the event, organizers say “Philadelphia is quickly becoming the capital of rugby in the United States.”
One interesting side note is the participation of Maurice Clarett. The controversial former Ohio State football star has reportedly cleaned up his act and has turned to rugby. Clarett’s goal is to qualify for the U.S. national team and compete for a 2016 Olympic spot.
