“This senseless act took the life of a great young man and devastated his family,”State rep. John Taylorsaid on Facebook in a post announcing the arrest. “We thank law enforcement for their work.”

Kelly was shot dead on the 3500 block of Almond Street, the block where his family lives.

The two suspects allegedly shot Kelly after he resisted their attempts to rob him. Kelly’s mother allegedly saw them shoot her son, and saw one suspect point a gun at her before they jumped into a stolen Mazda 6 and fled.

Police laterreleased surveillance footage of two suspects believed to be behind the shooting from an ATM where they unsuccessfully tried to use an debit card they had stolen earlier that night. The stolen Mazda 6, which police recovered, is visible in the surveillance footage.

The investigation is ongoing.
