Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a double shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy Saturday afternoon in Rhawnhurst.
Saahir Mouzon, who two months ago turned 17 years old, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and other crimes for his alleged role in the killing of Xzavier Gregory, authorities said this week.
Gunfire erupted just before 4 p.m. Saturday at Teesdale and Frontenac streets, and officers called to the scene found Gregory unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to the PPD.
An 18-year-old girl who had been shot in her ankle took refuge in a Glendale Avenue laundromat, across the street from Northeast High School, law enforcement officials added.
Homicide detectives and SWAT officers apprehended Mouzon, who lives in South Philadelphia, early Monday morning.
Police Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom told the Inquirer that the violence stemmed from a previous argument between teens at nearby Jardel Recreation Center.
Mouzon was denied bail and is currently being detained at the Juvenile Justice Services Center. Court records indicate that a preliminary hearing in the case is set for Oct. 27.
In 2025, 10 youth under the age of 18 have been killed in shootings in Philadelphia and 84 have been injured, a decrease of more than 14% compared to the same date last year, according to the Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting’s dashboard.
