Philadelphia police say they are keeping track of the search for convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante, whose escape from the Chester County jail nearly two weeks ago has sparked a manhunt in the far reaches of the city’s suburbs.
There is no “nexus to Philadelphia” in the case, PPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Eric Gripp said Tuesday in a statement. “However, we are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with our law enforcement partners,” he added.
Authorities said protocols are in place if Cavalcante enters the city, but officials declined to disclose details of those plans.
Amateur investigators and residents of Chester County have taken to looking themselves for Cavalcante — who was reportedly armed with a rifle — against the wishes of State Police. Local law enforcement also advised civilians against attempting to capture Cavalcante.
“Safety is paramount, and we advise anyone who may come across Danelo Cavalcante — or any fugitive — to immediately call 911 and provide as much information as possible to assist law enforcement,” Gripp said.
