Bank robber writes stick-up note on rehab discharge papers, forgets cash in cab

A Philadelphia man signed himself out of a Chester County drug rehab, took the SEPTA and went straight to the bank – to rob it with a stick up note he wrote on his discharge papers, according to reports.

Jamal Goodwin, 25, of South Carroll Street, was charged with robbery and theft by unlawful taking after allegedly robbing the Malvern Federal Savings Bank on Monday, Patch reported.

With a note sprawled on his rehab discharge papers, Goodwin demanded “all the money” from the bank teller, claiming he had a firearm.

He made off with $5,110, but left about half of it in a Main Line Taxi Cab that was waiting outside, Philly.com reported.

Goodwin also left the discharge papers – the alleged stick up note – that had his name, the money in a gym bag with his name written on the tag, his wallet with his identification and two sweatshirts, according to reports.

When police arrested Goodwin on Tuesday, he was in possession of heroin, cocaine and around $1,000 of the bank’s money, which was all that was left of his spoils, Philly.com reported.

“This case is a compelling example of the overwhelming damage of addiction,” Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said, Daily Local reported. “He’s gonna get sober, but it’s gonna be behind bars. It’s a tragedy for him and his family, but we can’t have people engaging in this kind of behavior.”

Goodwin was arraigned on Tuesday. He was unable to post bail and remains in the Chester County Prison.
