Beanie Sigel sentenced to 24 months in jail for tax evasion

Rapper Beanie Sigel has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for failing to pay taxes from 1999 to 2005.

Sigel, who was born Dwight Grant and is originally from South Philadelphia, pleaded guilty in August. He is scheduled to report to prison on September 12.

From 2003 and 2005, Sigel earned more than $1 million, on which he owed $348,077 in taxes, but never paid, federal prosecutors claim. He also failed to filed income tax returns of pay taxes from 1999 to 2002. Between 1999 and 2005, Sigel earned more than $2.2 million, but has only paid $10,000 in taxes. The Internal Revenue Service said Sigel still owes $728,536.

In addition to prison, Grant has been ordered to pay all taxes, penalties and interest.
