Edgy, irreverent, and a hauntingly good time. These are all words that describe none other than Beetlejuice. No, not the self-proclaimed “Ghost with the Most” himself, but his namesake, the 1988 original motion picture turned Broadway smash hit.
This summer, thanks to the efforts of Ensemble Arts Philly and The Shubert Organization, ‘Beetlejuice’ returns to the Academy of Music, back by popular demand. From July 29 to Aug. 3, this hauntingly hilarious musical, based on the beloved Tim Burton film musical, can be enjoyed by lifetime fans or first-time spectators alike.

‘Beetlejuice’ tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life is forever changed when she meets the Maitlands, who are pleasant enough, if not a bit stiff, and the ever-mischievous and chaotic demon with a certain sentiment for stripes, known as Betelgeuse.
“The ghost with the most is spending part of his summer vacation with us at the Academy of Music – but please, don’t say his name three times,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “Beetlejuice continues to reinvent itself; from the 1988 original motion picture to Broadway and touring productions, the 2023 Warner Bros. Pictures sequel and beyond, audiences adore the demon and his everlasting shenanigans from the Netherworld.”
