Beloved Pearl movie theater abruptly closes

The long-beloved spacious movie theater where Temple kids could get their thrills and buckets of buttery popcorn will be changing hands.

The Pearl Theatre, located at Cecil B. Moore and Broad Street, is in a building owned by Blatstein Properties. Blatstein plans to turn the location over to a new owner, making it the AMC North Broad Street 7, Philly.com reported.

The theater is set to reopen Friday under new ownership and start renovations in early 2017 – including the reclining chairs found in most newer movie theaters.

Despite the reopening, news hit fans of the original Pearlhard. Itopened in North Philly in 2006 and was remembered for holding performances by local artists and comedian in additions to major motion pictures with weekly discounted tickets on Tuesday.

“The Pearl Theatre is closed! I just might shed a tear,” one woman tweeted.

“I’m just getting news that The Pearl Theatre at Avenue North is being closed down.easily my fave cinema in the country, so many memories,” another wrote.
