Birds high on Kelly, waiting for answer

Chip Kelly has been the top candidate to replace Andy Reid ever since the Eagles racked up their eighth loss. On Saturday, the two sides reportedly met for nine hours.

Kelly, who also interviewed with Cleveland, met with owner Jeff Lurie, president Don Smolenski and GM Howie Roseman Saturday in Arizona. It started as a lunch meeting and then dragged on into the night, forcing Kelly to cancel a second interview with Cleveland.

The Browns have reportedly re-opened their coaching search, while the Eagles are awaiting Kelly’s response. He will either choose the Birds or stay at Oregon.

The Eagles were in Denver yesterday interviewing Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. Syracuse coach Doug Marrone, another candidate high on the team’s wish list, inked a deal to be Buffalo’s head coach.

The Eagles have also requested permission to meet with Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

Kelly is still thought to be Lurie’s top pick, according to a team source.
