Birds rallying late, finally winning close ballgames

The Eagles are winning the games they would have lost last season. Plain and simple.

Those extra bounces they are getting — or ones other teams aren’t getting, in the case of the second Lawrence Tynes’ field goal that fell about two yards short — have made the difference between a 3-1 record and a 1-3 mark.

“Every week’s a challenge in this league,” Andy Reid said. “These guys, they’ve got a good attitude, though. They’re tough. There’s a toughness about them; a certain mentality about them that you appreciate.”

Mike Vick has been unflappable when the game is hanging in the balance. The quarterback has led the Eagles on three game-winning drives, all coming in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

“It’s something you have to do,” Vick said. “Every game is not going to be perfect and it’s not going to always be a situation where things come easy.”

“Honestly, this is how we like it,” DeSean Jackson said. “Coming down to last plays and last series, that’s usually when really the best comes out of us.”

It seems to be a new wrinkle in Philadelphia. The Eagles have won three games by two points or less so far this season. The last time that happened was way back in 1990, and that was stretched out over the course of an entire, 16-game schedule.

“I mean, being the NFL, it’s not always going to be a blowout,” cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said.

Injury report

King Dunlap (hamstring) is on track to practice this week. The left tackle has missed the last two games.

Mike Vick (knee) and LeSean McCoy (knee) are dealing with very minor injuries.

Akeem Jordan (hamstring) isn’t expected to practice Wednesday.
