Every summer, the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville sets aside a few days to pay homage to the venue’s starring role in a 1958 classic Steve McQueen film. Blobfest centers around the popular horror cult classic, ‘The Blob,’ and the three-day festival will give film buffs and horror fans the chance to check out live performances, special engagements, tours, and much more. And 2025’s celebration is set to be bigger than ever.
“Blobfest is more than just a celebration of such a classic film; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring legacy of the Colonial Theatre,” said Jennifer Carlson, Executive Director of the Colonial. “Each year, we’re thrilled to see generations of fans come together in Phoenixville to embrace the weird, the wonderful, and the wonderfully weird. With this year’s new additions and expanded access, we’re proud to make Blobfest more inclusive, more imaginative, and more unforgettable than ever.”

Taking place July 11 to 13, the event’s theme this year is dubbed “Camp Blobfest,” and will feature some new additions to the line-up (thanks to an $8,000 grant from PECO.) As a release notes, the funding will support expanded outreach efforts within Phoenixville’s Hispanic community. As part of this initiative, the Colonial will offer fully funded, free tickets to all screenings of ‘La Masa Devoradora’, the Spanish-language version of The Blob. DJ Jholi will also be on-site for Saturday’s street fair at 5:30 p.m.
The festival will officially kick off on July 11 at 6 p.m. with the Blobfest 2025 Stage Show and Run Out. While here, attendees will be able to enjoy an appearance from Baltimore-based horror host Aurora Gorealis of Shocktail Hour, live music, Shorty’s Short Film Contest, and an audience re-enactment of The Blob’s famous ‘run out’ scene.
The Colonial Theatre’s Blob Ball will then follow suit after the event, where guests can dance to live music, sip on themed cocktails and dress up in 1950s attire ($25, 9 p.m. at 225 Lobby.)

The Blobfest Street Fair will be taking over Bridge and Main street on July 12 beginning at 11 a.m. Guests can expect more than 70 sci-fi and horror-themed vendors, live bands, a fire extinguisher parade, a family zone, and a Blobfest Merchandise tent where locals can purchase unique trinkets. Additionally, at 1 p.m., guests of all ages can cosplay their way to the parking lot at Main and Bridge streets to see festivalgoers decked out in their best and boldest Blob-themed looks on the Costume Contest catwalk.
Screenings of the original and Spanish-dubbed versions of ‘The Blob’, and other horror movies will be screened throughout the weekend (a full schedule of showtimes can be found online.) There’s also an additional Run-Out scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:30, offering fans “a second chance to be part of the action and excitement.”
The festival will close out on July 13 with the 7th Annual Blobfest 5k, 10k, and half marathon. Benefits from this unique event go to support the Colonial, and every finisher in each race will receive a Blob-themed finisher’s medal. The workout portion of the festival will then be followed by a final screening of ‘The Blob’, plus, ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’, and ‘Matt McGinnis’s Movie Riffing Melee: Camp-O-Rama.’
